SCAMMERS beware – your days are numbered in South Ayrshire.
For trading standards officers have teamed up with the Office of Fair Trading to put you out of business.
They’ve launched a new campaign aimed at making the public more aware of crooks who will stop at nothing to con them out of their hard earned cash.
The Scamnesty campaign encourages the public to collect any potential scam mail they receive and drop them into designated boxes in libraries, County Buildings in Ayr, and at the trading standards office in Ayr’s River Street.
A spokesman for trading standards explained that some of the favoured means of conning cash from the unsuspecting public includes bogus sweepstakes and lotteries, get rich quick schemes and fake health cures.
In South Ayrshire people have also been targeted by numerous other scams, with one man receiving mail from a foreign lottery company saying that he was the winner of a big cash prize. It claimed that he had to pay money to claim the prize.
Fortunately he didn’t fall for the dodgy deal and reported it to trading standards.
The initiative will run throughout February.
