Bomb drama at Ayr nightclub

A NIGHTCLUB was searched for a bomb after a hoax call to police.

Cops rushed to Madisons in Ayr at around 10.30 on Sunday night after a 999 call claiming a bomb was planted in it.

A thorough search was carried out but no bomb was found.

A man has been charged over the incident.

Colin Devlin, 27, of Chalmers Road in Ayr, appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday morning.

It is alleged that he repeatedly made 999 calls claiming that a bomb was within the Carrick Street club.

Devlin is also accused of phoning the emergency services and telling them that a large drugs transaction was about to take place in Ayr town centre.

He is further alleged to have falsely claimed he had been the victim of a serious assault and faces a charge of cannabis possession.

He made no plea or declaration during his court appearance.

Despite crown objection, defence lawyer Peter Lockhart secured bail for his client.

However, Devlin is forbidden from consuming alcohol, using a mobile phone, land line or email.

Sheriff Colin Miller also warned Devlin not to approach or enter Madisons nightclub.
