Carrick Academy boss suspended

THE rector of Carrick Academy has been suspended from his job.

It is understood that Rodger Stewart has not been at the Maybole school for several weeks.

Mr Stewart is a former PE teacher who became head at Carrick more than a decade ago.

He was a star basketball player in his younger days for the Cumnock Curries. And his home is in Cumnock.

Carrick Academy had a disappointing report from Her Majesty’s Inspectors in 2005.

But a follow-up report in 2007 said Mr Stewart and his staff had demonstrated high levels of commitment to address the issues.

However, it is now being suggested that the rector is falling short in some aspects of his job.

A South Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “It would be wrong of us to discuss an individual employee.”
