TWO childhood buddies dusted down their walking boots and headed for the hills.
Now Fraser McLellan and Stuart Brockie have returned from Ben Nevis with a cash kitty for charity.
The childhood friends scaled Britain’s highest peak to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Both men have families touched by the illness, with their mothers currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
So Fraser, 32, and Stuart, 33, joined forces for the climb and raised a whopping £1500 for the charity.
Fraser, a private wealth banker and Stuart, an engineer, hiked their way to the summit in misty conditions.
And their effort has been praised by Cancer Research volunteer manager Rowan Main.
She said: “The guys did wonderfully to raise this amount and we’re really thankful to them.
“Apparently the conditions were pretty bad on the way up and they couldn’t see a thing at the top.
“It was only on the way back down that the mist started to clear and they were able to see the stunning views.”
Fraser, who works at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Ayr’s Sandgate, was on hand to deliver a bumper cheque for £1528.30.
The bank had kindly donated £500 to help swell the total.
Rowan added: “Over the past year our groundbreaking research has continued to lead the way in the causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of every type of cancer. Tens of thousands of lives have been saved and the improved survival rates we are now seeing are proof that cancer research delivers results.”
