Ayr cyclist was over limit

A BOOZED up cyclist has been charged with careless driving.

The 35-year-old was found to be under the influence of alcohol when he fell off his bike in full view of cops.

Officers went to the man’s aid only to find that he was drunk.

The blunder happened on Prestwick Road at about 9.45pm on December 22 – right in the middle of a police crackdown on drink drivers.

The second week of the festive campaign saw seven people charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or failing to give a sample of breath.

That brings the total number of drink drivers caught over the festive period to 21.

But traffic police are still out in force in a bid to catch the drivers who dare to get behind the wheel after having a festive drink.

As part of the campaign, spot checks will be carried out on taxis to ensure they are safe and licensed and anyone involved in a car crash will be breathalysed as a matter of course.
