Shock at Ayr Belmont pupil's death

A SENIOR pupil of Ayr’s Belmont Academy tragically died in hospital on Monday morning.

S6 pupil Carly Keenan had been at the school disco on Thursday last week.

But she complained of headaches over the weekend and was taken into intensive care.

Seventeen-year-old Carly died of a brain haemorrhage.

Belmont head Alan Moir said: “Carly was a popular pupil who played an active role in the school and was well respected by her peers and members of staff.

The death of any young person is a tragedy. On behalf of the school I would like to offer my condolences to her family, relatives and friends. They are all in our thoughts at this very difficult time.

“Pupils at Belmont Academy who are trying to come to terms with what has happened will be offered appropriate support from myself and other members of staff.”

One of Carly’s best friends, Gemma, posted a message on the tragic girl’s Bebo website:

“Carly, I can't believe I'm writing something like this to you. It actually feels like I'm in some dream or something, I wish it was.

“I'll miss you so much. I can't believe you’re gone.

“The past 12 hours have been the worst hours of my life, but I stayed at the hospital with everyone.

“I knew if it was me you'd be there every single second you could. Everything I'm writing makes no sense.”
