The former firefighter has been selected as the party’s candidate for the Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock constituency.

He lives in Ayr with his wife but was born and raised in Rankinston.
Mr Grant worked with the fire service for 31 years and retired as deputy commander.
He said: “I am delighted to have been selected as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Westminister candidate for the general election.
“I look forward to campaigning and I will use the time from now till the general election to meet as many people in Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock as possible.
“I hope people will support me as a local man whose aim is to contribute to making our area a better, safer and cleaner place for all of us to live, work and raise our families in.
“I am confident that, if elected, I will be able to make a significant contribution at Westminister and will always fight to maintain the union.”
