Students take their bow at Ayr College graduation

MORE than 170 students have taken their bow at the latest Ayr College graduation ceremony.

Parents, politicians and even the consul general of India were on hand as certificates were handed out to by college principal Diane Rawlinson at Ayr Town Hall.

She said: “Our students and staff should be very pleased with what they have achieved.

“They have worked very hard and once again our staff have offered our students the very best learning opportunities.

“It is great to see so many of our students graduating with so much support from friends and family who have come from all over the world to celebrate this wonderful day.”

One student who successfully graduated was the college’s first student from Cameroon, 34-year-old Prudencia Belle.

Prudencia studied HNC Health Care and was named as the college’s International Student of the Year in addition to winning the college’s Care Student of the Year award.

She said: “I have been here now for one year and would be the first person to encourage anyone to come to Ayr College.

“Staff are devoted to their work and help is always available when you need it. I have missed my husband and seven year old daughter, Ashley Belle, who remained in Cameroon whist I studied at Ayr College. They are both so proud of me.

“Hospitals in the UK are much more advanced than in my country and the role of the nurse is very different.

“I had a friend who studied in Scotland and recommended the country. I looked on the internet for a suitable college and I liked what I read about Ayr College.

“I’m now looking forward to continuing with my studies in Scotland at Glasgow Caledonian University studying BSc Adult Nursing.”

Prudencia was presented with her awards at the graduation ceremony alongside the other fourteen Student of the Year award winners.

All awards were supported by local and national sponsors.
