Shopping the Fairtrade way in Ayr

A NEW shop is aiming to beat the Christmas rush – by opening for just two weeks.

The Ayr Fairtrade store will open in the High Street this Tuesday.

And they're carrying an important message as well as shifting items from the shelves.

The volunteers behind the shop want locals to help traders around the world get a fairer deal by buying from the Ayr store.

Manager Norma Duncan revealed: “Ayr became an official Fairtrade town last year and we want to keep doing our bit.

“The council have helped us out to get the shop leased for two weeks and it would be great if the people of Ayr did their Christmas shopping in here.

“If it goes well we might look at the idea of having a shop in the town full time.”

Ayr’s Fairtrade store will sell everything from jewellery to advent calendars.

The shop closes on November 30.
