Hot food is off the menu at Ayr Tuck Shop

A POPULAR takeaway has been ordered to stop cooking.

The Tuck Shop, which was a massive lunchtime hit with schoolkids, has fried its last chip.

South Ayrshire Council’s planning panel refused an application for the shop to continue serving hot grub.

However, one councillor made a bid to save the shop from defeat.

SNP man Ian Douglas told the packed planning meeting that he visited the shop on a scouting mission.

Mr Douglas bought a roll on his trip and insisted: “I don’t see anything wrong with what they’re doing.”

The shop plays host to hundreds of Ayr Academy pupils who pile across the street every day for fast food.

The school, which has almost 700 kids, is also flanked by a nearby Chinese takeaway.

But The Tuck Shop was unable to argue successfully against the closure of its hot food section.

Planning officers cited the built-up residential area plus the need for building work on the shop needed to maintain their cooking as reasons for refusal.
