Ayr woman too drunk to appear in court

A WOMAN was too drunk to turn up for her court appearance.

Elizabeth Smith, 60, was due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court for sentencing last week.

But her husband called to say she was too drunk to attend and was at home in bed.

Smith, of Holmston Drive in Ayr, had previously pleaded guilty to chucking a laptop out an upstairs window at her house, shouting, swearing, uttering threats and committing a breach of the peace on August 11 this year.

She also admitted that on October 5 at her house she was shouting and swearing, conducting herself in a disorderly manner and placed David Smith, who also lives there, in a state of fear and alarm.

Smith, who was also drunk when she turned up for an interview with social workers, was given one more chance to attend at court.

But Sheriff McGowan warned that if she doesn’t turn up sober next week a warrant will be issued for her arrest.
