Ayr doc is probed over ‘false name’ claim

A DOCTOR’S career hangs in the balance this week.

Dr David Collier, a specialist in endocrinology and diabetes at Ayr Hospital, is in front of the General Medical Council’s Fitness to Practice Panel.

The panel is investigating an allegation that Dr Collier provided a false name, false date of birth and false request form in order to obtain a biochemistry report of his own blood.

It’s further alleged that he tried to access the results in his own name.

If true, his actions were misleading and not to the standard expected of a medical practioner.

It comes after conditions were put on Dr Collier’s registration.

The four-day hearing is being held in private at the GMC headquarters in Manchester this week.

Bob Masterton, executive medical director, said: “We have been fully involved with the GMC process and in supporting Dr Collier in the workplace. He is a valued contributor to our services.”
