A MUM smashed her new automatic motor into a parked car before driving off to see her boyfriend.
Donna Nicholson, 42, couldn’t sleep when she received a text from her partner in the early hours of June 21 this year after they’d had a fight.
But in her hurry to get to him, she smashed into a Fiesta in St George’s Road, which shunted forward and collided with a Ford Fusion. A witness saw Nicholson, of Ayr’s Glebe Road, check out the damage before driving off at around 2.15am.
Defence lawyer Peter Lockhart told Sheriff John Montgomery that the voluntary care worker relies on her car to take clients for their shopping.
Mr Lockhart went on to explain that she had started driving the automatic car two weeks ago and was unfamiliar with it. She accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
Sheriff Montgomery raised the issue of alcohol.
But Mr Lockhart said that she spoke to police within 12 hours and they were satisfied that she hadn’t been drinking.
Sheriff Montgomery fined Nicholson £450 and put eight points on her licence.
