TRAVELLERS will be the topic for discussion when MP Brian Donohoe meets with Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears.
For he will put forward his own solution to the problem which has plagued his Central Ayrshire constituency.
He said: “I am increasingly convinced that the laws supposedly designed to deal with this matter are simply not working in many cases.
“I have already made it clear that I can only see two options. The first being to introduce a policy of zero tolerance, whereby the moment a travelling community sets up camp illegally, they are targeted by all relevant organisations.
“The second option being a statutory organisation along similar lines to the Showmen’s Guild, a self regulating body for fairgrounds, which seems to work extremely well.”
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 11.
