Mick marches past his Ayr front door

IT’S not every day you get to march past your front door with almost 400 of your mates.

But that’s exactly what L.Cpl Mick Barr did on his parade of pride.

The Fusilier lives in Ayr’s Dalblair Road and trooped past his own house on a day of huge emotion.

Mick, 23, admitted: “It was strange walking by my own place and seeing everyone out waving to me.

“When I was out in Afghanistan this was a day I really looked forward to.

“Being able to come back and enjoy normal things like a pint is just great.

“And it means the world to walk through the place where I live and have people saying thanks a lot and appreciate what we’re doing.”

Mick was cheered through his hometown by girlfriend Denise and a support crew of family and friends.

And he was joined by some of his best buddies in saluting those who came out to thank the troops.

L.Cpl Kris Johnstone, of Kilmarnock, admitted: “It’s our choice to do the job we do, but having people come out and thank us like this means a lot.”
