Cars stranded on flooded A77

DOZENS of cars were stranded on the A77 on Saturday night.

Eight people had to be rescued by boat as rain water flooded the road near Sandyford Toll.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10.30pm.

Three cars were trapped in the water and around 30 vehicles were backed up the road. Seven adults and one 10-year-old boy were rescued by the fire service’s Zodiac boat.

And an elderly man was treated at the scene for mild hypothermia before being taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital.

A dozen firefighters were in attendance for over an hour.

The road remained closed for several hours while the rain water receded.
