The fabulous fifties

THEY might be in their 50s but Bobby Miller and Maureen Knox could give fitness fanatics half their age a run for their money.

For this pair of gym junkies have just completed more than 120 hours of exercise between them.

Bobby and Maureen are both 51 and members at Bannatyne’s gym in Ayr.

And they were among hundreds of members who took part in a the latest gym challenge – to complete 61 hours of tough cardiovascular exercise within just two months.

The pair ran, rowed, cycled and took part in numerous hard-core exercise classes to take first place in the men’s and women’s challenges.

Regular runner Bobby, of Ayr, used the Tour de Bannatyne’s contest to help him train for the gruelling 45 mile River Ayr Way challenge – which he managed to finish first in a fantastic six hours and 24 minutes.

And dedicated Maureen’s hard work in the gym has even managed to improve her golf game.

The club’s fitness manager Paul Burke insists that Bobby and Maureen are fantastic examples to others.

He said: “They both managed to complete one to two hours of exercise a day for two months. Around 260 members took part, many of them a lot younger than Bobby and Maureen.

“They did really well to complete the tour and to win.”

Bobby and Maureen, who is also from Ayr, were each rewarded with a new Bang and Olufsen mobile phone and they will be put forward into a prize draw with winners from the company’s other 60 clubs across the UK.

Paul added: “It just goes to show you what a bit of dedication can help you achieve.

“They should both be really proud of themselves.”
