New bin pick-ups in bid to boost recycling

BROWN bin collections will cease from November 1 to March 31 in a pilot project in Troon, Barassie and Loans.

But instead there will be fortnightly blue bin collections in a bid to recycle more paper, cards, cans and plastic.

South Ayrshire’s Councillor Peter Convery said: “During the winter months, when we have less garden waste, it makes sense to see if emptying blue bins more often can increase our recycling rate.”

Councillor Convery said the Scottish Government has set very challenging recycling targets which the council is keen to meet.

And he said householders in Troon, Barassie and Loans have been sent a letter, telling them about the pilot, and revising the collection calendar. Anyone wishing to dispose of garden waste during the non-collection period can take it to Troon Recycling Centre in Port Ranald Drive.
