Hall our own work

MAUCHLINE Scouts have a proud history going back almost a century.

And they have more than lived up to the movement’s Be Prepared motto.

For much of the work on their hall has been done by leaders and parents.

Now they are reaping the benefits with a super extended hall.

Cathy Jamieson MSP and Fiona Lees, chief executive of East Ayrshire Council, were among guests at an official opening.

The new-look hall now matches perfectly with nearby Mauchline Primary School.

A spokesman said: “We are lucky that Scouting teaches us to think for ourselves and overcome problems.

“We have made three bids to the National Lottery over the past decade, and all ended in failure.

“The only way forward was to do it ourselves.

“And again we are lucky that many adults recognise what Scouting did for them, and gave what help they could for the next generation.”
