College course builds on success

BUILDERS are being given the chance to learn a national course at Ayr College.

The CSCS Health and Safety course is being run via distance learning.

Since introducing the distance learning option in January, the college has seen 170 people from across the UK successfully pass.

Cameron Bell, construction curriculum leader at Ayr College, said: “We started offering the CSCS course on a part-time basis two years ago but we identified the need for people to gain the CSCS in their own time where it would not interfere with any commitments.

“We are thrilled with how successful the CSCS Distance Learning course has been.”

Patna man Paul Gavin, 41, completed the CSCS Health and Safety course last month.

He said: “I had some previous work experience on building sites but I really needed a CSCS card to get a more permanent job.

“The Distance Learning was ideal for me. I was able to do the course in my own time and I received plenty of help from the college lecturers who were great. I’ve now got a job locally with a construction company and it’s going really well.”
