MORE than £100,000 in Lottery cash will be pumped into creating a one-stop-shop for training and community activities in North Ayr.
The Positive Impact Centre will help tackle some of the social and economic problems in the community.
The new centre is likely to be located at the Russell Street Building and will house a range of services.
Ayr MSP John Scott insists that the £117,000 award from the Big Lottery Fund is a credit to the Wallacetoun and Newton Regeneration Forum, who were behind the application.
He said: “The proposal to create a Positive Impact Centre is a very exciting one, and enormous credit is due to the staff and volunteers of the Wallacetoun and Newton Regeneration Forum who, working in partnership with Access to Employment Ayr and South Ayrshire Council, have driven this project forward.
“By combining training for employment and community activities under the same roof, the Positive Impact Centre will help tackle some of the social and economic problems that beset communities that are amongst the most deprived in Ayr.”
Mr Scott added: “The plan for a Positive Impact Centre is a fantastic example of partnership working between local community representatives, social enterprises and the council and, with this award now having been made, I look forward to further progress being achieved on it and to the real benefits I am sure it will bring to the residents of Wallacetoun and Newton.”
