SCOTLAND’S most high-profile lawman Donald Findlay is the principal speaker at this year’s Gentlemen’s Dinner in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice.
The colourful QC, who has made the headlines more for his activities out of court than in court, will entertain at the event in the Princess Royal Suite, Ayr Racecourse, on Friday, October 31.
Findlay famously was ousted as Rangers vice chairman after he sang sectarian songs at a football club dinner, an occasion captured by a reporter on his mobile phone camera.
The pipe-smoking lawyer has been defence counsel in most of the major criminal trials in Scotland in the past 25 years. But it is his antics away from the Bar that have attracted front page coverage.
Findlay forever challenges authority, describing himself as a “Bolshie so and so” and lists among the jobs he’s done TV repair man, lorry driver and designer of ladies’ lingerie.
Joining him at the top table for the dinner sponsored by Giles Insurance will be comedian Dave Wolfe, a self-described character assassin who has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and the London Palladium.
Wolfie has travelled the world, entertaining corporate clients and has appeared on television in the Royal Variety Show, Live from Her Majesty’s, Comic Relief and Night of 100 Stars.
Hospice fundraising manager Louis Jardine said: “Both these gentlemen come highly recommended. The laughs won’t be in short supply that night.”
Tables for the Gentlemen’s Dinner, a black tie event, normally seat 10 but the organisers will accept smaller parties. Tickets cost £50 per person.
