COUNTER terrorism experts took centre stage at Prestwick Airport.
They were among the specialist speakers at an event aimed at raising awareness of the issue among businesses.
Representatives from each of the emergency services and South Ayrshire Council helped make up the expert panel presenting the three-hour event.
Detective Inspector Paul Kelly explained: “This event is in no way intended to alarm the business community who operate within the proximity of the airport.
“It forms part of a national UK wide presentation to alert businesses to the risks.
“It also highlights how they may be affected by any unforeseen impact on their business whether it is through natural disaster such as a flood or indeed a terrorist or extremist attack.”
Project ARGUS (Area Reinforcement Gained Under Simulation) has been developed by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office.
Constable Stuart Rodgers, organised the Ayrshire event.
He said: “Incidents such as the attack on Glasgow Airport last summer a a high profile reminder of the consequences of terrorist action.
“I believe that we can only counter terrorist activity through information sharing.
“Events like this help to open up the channels of communication and hopefully help people feel more comfortable about reporting their suspicions to police.”
