Search to find an Ayrshire health hero

THE search is on for Ayrshire’s unsung health workers who go the extra mile to deliver quality healthcare and patient treatment.

Nominations are open for the Scottish Health Awards 2008, and people in Ayrshire and Arran are being urged to shout about their local healthcare heroes.

Have you spotted the hard work and commitment of loyal NHS staff that deserves to be acknowledged?

If so, this is the chance for you to nominate your local healthcare heroes – either an individual or team.

The awards cover staff from all aspects of NHS Scotland, in hospitals, dental practices, health centres or community care.

They seek to acclaim the commitment of staff from every area of healthcare, from therapists and GPs to specialist carers, managers and volunteers.

Jackie Flynn from NHS Ayrshire and Arran last last year collected the Mental Health Team Award after being nominated by a colleague in recognition of her positive attitude, professionalism, and dedication.

Jackie, a key member of the Throughcare Team in South Ayrshire, has worked tirelessly to set up a service for young people who have been in local authority care and need extra support and advice with complex heath and social issues.

You can nominate for the the awards by going online to visit www.scottishhealthawards.com or email v.smith@dailyrecord.co.uk for an entry form.

All nominations must be received no later than September 8, 2008, following which a specially selected panel of judges will select three finalists in every category.

Finalists will be invited to attend the awards ceremony in November. And as well as being in with a chance of picking up an award, finalists will receive a donation to their nominated charity, with over £30,000 being donated.
