Silence is golden Ayr bingo fundraiser

A BINGO hall fell silent as one of its loudest staff members held a sponsored silence.

Sandra Johnston, office controller at the Mecca in Ayr, raised £266 for the Whizz-Kidz charity.

She stayed quiet for nine hours as part of the fundraiser.

Mecca staff are trying to raise £250,000 for the national children’s mobility charity.

Club general manager Julie Holderness revealed: “Sandra is normally a very chatty member of our team so we thought she’d last a couple of hours at the most. However, she surprised us all by lasting an impressive nine hours without making a sound!”
