Navy man’s Ayr business is shipshape

WHEN Scott Weir quit the Royal Navy, his dream was to start a business.

Seven years on, he runs two companies and has just been named one of the top students at Ayr College.

Not bad for a lad who left school without any Highers.

Scott, 27, fronts up his own letting and steam cleaning businesses which are going from strength to strength.

And he’s just celebrated a move to a prime spot in Ayr High Street for his Homesure Properties letting agency.

He revealed: “I had a great time in the Navy and got to travel the world, which was a fantastic experience.

“I would spend nine months of the year away from home but, during that time, I had bad experiences with the letting agents who dealt with my house.

“So I decided to come home and start my own letting business and do it for myself.”

Since setting up Homesure four years ago, Scott has moved his premises to the High Street from Ayr’s Sandgate and his career continues to flourish.

He also bagged an HND in Hospitality Management from Ayr College and was awarded the title of Hospitality student of the year.

He said: “The reason I chose a hospitality course was because I knew that it would provide me with training in a variety of areas.

“I also liked the flexibility the part-time course at Ayr College offered which allowed me to pursue my interests in starting up my own business.

“But my business is all about a team effort and certainly isn’t just me. Credit goes to all of our staff.”

Ayr College Principal, Diane Rawlinson, added: “We are delighted that we are able to offer part-time courses for people like Scott who have other commitments. Scott is a great success and we wish him all the best for the future.”
