CONVENIENCE store chain Spar has condemned the move to close the Post Office in its Forehill branch.
And they’ve urged customers to get behind the campaign to save it.
CJ Lang &Son, the company behind the group which owns the Forehill branch of the chain, insists that the community will be the biggest loser.
A spokesman explained: “The ethos of Spar convenience stores is to offer a valued service to the local community and we recognise that the provision of a post office facility such as Mount Oliphant Crescent within Spar very much forms part of the service of which our customers depend.
“We therefore have a duty to both our store and Post Office staff at Forehill and their customers to strongly oppose the proposed closure.”
A petition is already in place and customers are encouraged to take part in the formal consultation exercise to oppose the closure.
The spokesman said: “We are actively encouraging the community to support our campaign and avoid leaving Forehill without this post office, which we believe will leave the local community severely disadvantaged.
“As a company CJ Lang &Son Ltd have expanded their Post Office network considerable over the last five years, investing £800,000 in the process and forming a harmonious working relationship with the Post Office organisation. We feel let down by the attitude of the Post Office now in proposing to axe one of our branches.”
