Ayrshire public must make stand on P.O. Closures

THE public must stand up and be counted if they are opposed to the closure of Ayrshire post offices.

And MP Brian Donohoe insists that he’s prepared to fight their corner if they come forward.

The Central Ayrshire MP revealed that just two people have so far complained to him about the planned axing of three branches in his constituency.

And he defended the UK government’s decision to back the Post Office’s decision to rationalise the service across Ayrshire – despite fierce criticism from the SNP led government at Holyrood. He said: “I don’t need anyone to tell me – especially from Edinburgh – what the Labour Party have done to maintain post offices.

“They can’t come to me suggesting we’re not trying our best for the service.

“But I need members of the public who will be affected by these closures to come forward and make their case. At present I only have two letters arguing against the closures and that simply isn’t enough.”

Mr Donohoe added: “If I do receive representations that suggest the Post Office is making a mistake, them I renew my pledge to fight the issue all the way.”
