Centre depends on band of helpers from all walks of life
AYR Animal Welfare Centre depends on a team of dedicated volunteers.
And dog walker Ian Wilson is one of them.
He’s one of three people who give up their time to help care for the animals.
He said: “I think I decided to do it mainly out of guilt.
“But its good exercise and after having a dog for 30 years it’s a good way for me to have the best of both worlds.
“I have tremendous admiration for the young ladies here, the animals are well looked after.”
Ian walks two dogs twice a week for 25 minutes each and enjoys making new canine friends.
He added: “I try to take different dogs out each time, you do get favourites, though you really shouldn't.
“I haven't come across a dog that's too difficult.”
The centre is currently recruiting new dog walkers and Lynda explained that it is a very rewarding experience.
She said: “We always suit the preferences of our dog walkers because their work is obviously voluntary, they choose what they want to do.
“It’s good for people who don't have pets themselves.”
