SOS Business Awareness Campaign Underway in Ayrshire

SUPPORT our soldiers and let them know you care.

That’s the message being heralded across Ayrshire this week.

A dedicated team of volunteers are appealing for help in boosting the morale of troops risking their lives in far-flung war zones.

Ayr mum Agnes Hunter is the founder of Support Our Soldiers Scotland (SOS), a charity dedicated to providing practical help to military personnel serving abroad.

She set up the group five years ago when her son Scott was sent to Iraq.

Since then SOS has forwarded tens of thousands of packages containing toiletries, sun screen, dried food and countless other items to our troops.

The 2007 Christmas appeal alone was responsible for more than 15,000 packages going abroad.

The group’s latest project is a drop-in centre which has opened at Yeomanry House in Chalmers Road, Ayr. It will provide vital support to families and friends of service men and women.

But this dedicated team of men and women need YOUR support to continue their good work.

And this week SOS launches a new campaign to encourage the public and businesses to lend their support.

Agnes explained: “We have a really exciting time coming up.

“We are looking for as many businesses as possible to participate.

“And people can also help us in any way possible by sending out care packages to our lads and lasses. “They can also help us support their families back home.”

Individuals can donate anything from baby wipes to sweeties to the numerous collection points across Ayrshire.

Businesses can lend their support by becoming collection points, displaying posters and encouraging the public to offer donations.

They can also offer vital financial support or free access to their services for returning troops.
