New bosses take over Ayr's Carnegie Bar

AN AYR publican had his suspended licence restored.

But only so it could be transferred to a new operator.

South Ayrshire Licensing Board restored George Beveridge’s licence for the Carnegie Bar in Main Street.

A lawyer for him pledged: “Mr Beveridge will immediately give up his lease for the pub.”

Having restored Mr Beveridge’s licence, the board promptly transferred it to Shanter Inns, owners of the Tam o’ Shanter and the Market Inn.

Mr Beveridge had his licence suspended last month, following assaults and disturbances in and around the premises.

A lawyer for Shanter Inns said the firm would meet conditions set by the board for the Carnegie.

These stipulate there must be two staff on duty after 5pm, and a steward at the door.

And they allow karaoke one night per week, instead of the previous three.

And the singing must end by 10pm, instead of closing time.
