Tenants from Ayr flats enjoy a tea party

TENANTS of Ayr’s high flats enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at Cumnor Hall, the Church of Scotland care home.

Cumnor Hall manager Wilson Meredith was delighted to invite the tenants, some of whom can’t get out without help.

And he even offered the use of the Cumnor Hall minibus, and two helpers, to bring the tenants from the Riverside flats to the Old Racecourse.

Councillor Elaine Little and three tenants with cars – Margaret Price, Jane McPherson and Anna Gibson – also gave lifts.

The afternoon proved a great success, and the tea was followed by a sing-a-long and accordion music, provided by a Cumnor Hall staff member.

There was also a tour around the house, left to the Church of Scotland in 1957 as a legacy from the late Miss Elizabeth Mathieson.

The Cumnor Hall visit came after a discussion Riverside Tenants’ Association had about possible outings.

There was a feeling that bus trips are no longer as popular, as most of the older residents have bus passes.

One of the association members, Jean Thomson, is also on the committee at Cumnor Hall, and suggested the visit there.

Now there is the prospect of more visits in the future, cementing the link between the two groups.
