AN OAP was spray-painted in the face after trying to stop neds wrecking his neighbourhood.
The man, in his late 60s, intervened when three yobs set about walls in Ayr’s Macadam Place with spray cans.
But they turned their attack on the elderly gent and left him with a faceful of paint during the sickening incident.
Police have launched a hunt for the three youths and urged the public to help them by providing vital clues.
PC Ian Hilderley, of Ayr police, admitted: “This was a despicable crime and anyone who was in the area at the time or who has information must come forward.
“All this man was trying to do was keep the area nice and this was his reward.
“I’d urge anyone who can help to give us a call.”
The attack happened at 1.45pm on Saturday when the thugs, all described as 17 or 18 years old, began spraying the walls.
One then targeted the victim’s face when he intervened.
The first suspect is described as 5ft 7ins and was wearing a black beanie hat.
Another of the youths, also 5ft 7ins, was wearing a white top with a yellow diagonal stripe across the front. The third suspect was also 5ft 7ins and had a scruffy face.
