New trains to run in Ayrshire

AYRSHIRE’S rundown trains are to be replaced with state-of-the art new vehicles.

First ScotRail revealed that they’ve ordered a fleet of new trains that will come into service in December 2010.

A total of £200million will be spent on new Siemens trains across Scotland.

And the Ayr to Glasgow line will be among the main beneficiaries.

Ayr MSP John Scott insists that it’s good news for Ayrshire.

He said: “This will be a huge improvement on the existing stock.

“Passengers will benefit greatly from this significant investment.”

However, he says that he’ll continue to press for improved frequency of the Ayr to Glasgow service.

He added: “I am still pursuing an improvement to the service. I’d like to see trains operating from Ayr to Glasgow every 20 minutes.”
