Ayr nightclub gets booze licence as owners try to sell

AN AYR nightclub which hasn’t opened its doors for years has held on to its drinks licence.

Xess, in Nile Court, owned by the MacPherson Family Partnership, was granted a licence at South Ayrshire Licensing Board. But it is for one year only, to allow the family to decide what best to do with the premises.

The board heard that a building warrant expired in 2005, with a refurbishment only partially complete.

Solicitor Forbes Watson, for the MacPherson family, said: “Since then, there’s been a dramatic downturn in the licensed trade.

“And they have been trying to sell the premises, so far unsuccessfully.”
