Ayr Cemetery daubed with vile Nazi graffiti

Graffiti on the wall

NAZI graffiti has been tarred across Ayr’s Holmston cemetery.

Vandals painted a swastika and the words “Hail Hitler” on the wall of the graveyard.

The number 88 – Nazi shorthand for Heil Hitler – was also splattered in the grounds.

Council leader Hugh Hunter has labelled the vandalism distressing.

He said: “It is despicable that such an act of vandalism has been carried out in a cemetery, a place where people are laid to rest.

“This sort of vandalism causes distress to relatives and friends of people who have been buried there. “The matter has been reported to Strathclyde Police and I would appeal to anyone who has information about this to contact their local Police Office.”

The vandalism took place between 4pm and 10.45am last Wednesday and Thursday.

Anyone with information should contact police on 01292 664000.
