AYR County Show comes to Ayr Racecourse this weekend and looks set to be fun days out for all the family.
It’s also Ayrshire’s premier farming event that will see keen competition for the Rotherwood Champion of Champions title – and the £1000 top prize – which is judged at 3pm on Sunday and followed by the grand parade and presentation of prizes.
The winner will be selected from the best of all animal sections and also has a £300 prize for the reserve champion of champion.
Organisers are expecting over 20,000 visitors this weekend who will enjoy a varied programme including entertainment from Jive Pony Duo.
Show secretary Lorraine Murdoch said: “This energetic spectacular incorporates dancing horses, simultaneous world class vaulting, gymnastic skills, commentary from horseback and high speed equestrian stunts.”
The action takes place all around the arena and the show is packed with lots of cheeky humour, fantastic music and costumes.
She added: “Two shows will be performed on Saturday and another two shows on Sunday in the main ring.”
The young farmers tug o’ war competition will also be in the main ring on Saturday at noon.
The Royal Highland Educational Trust, entertainment, and food and craft marquee with 40 stands, have all been amalgamated into one large space this year.
An Elvis lookalike will make an appearance on both days in the entertainment marquee and there will also fun from Magic Malky and friends, Dalduff Farm Shop cookery demos, and entertainment from Ayrshire’s Aileen Robertson School of Highland Dancing and Leroc Dancers ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Clowns and Cumnock Pipe Band will be entertaining throughout the show-ground during the day.
Mabel, the dairy cow for children, will again be present and children can test their skills at milking her.
In addition, there will be a treasure hunt ‘Find Mabel’s Friends’.
Vintage tractors will attend with a static display.
An exhibition on growing Ayrshire tatties includes a display on understanding soil and the importance of earthworms in the growing process.
Ayr County Show is open from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are £12 for an adult on the Saturday, and £10 on Sunday, with concessions £7, and accompanied children aged 14 and under free.
