I’M no hero.
So says Eileen Granger, the woman who’s rapidly becoming Scotland’s top fundraiser.
The big hearted mum has racked up her latest award as her personal total rockets towards £300,000.
But she insisted: “I’m just lucky that I can do something to help others.”
Eileen, who’s been named fundraising hero by the Daily Mail newspaper, is in the running for the title of Scotland’s Everyday Hero.
After son Ross was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, the super-mum has launched her own personal mission to raise cash for the cause.
And her family who nominated her hope dedicated Eileen bags the gong – so she can win a much needed holiday.
Dad Tom, 72, revealed: “We’re all very proud of Eileen and what she’s done over the last few years.
“Obviously it was terrible when Ross was diagnosed, but at least some good has come of it through the work Eileen has done.
“She’s raised awareness of the charity, CLIC Sargent, and in my eyes is very heoric for what she’s doing.
“The funny thing is she used to be so shy and would cry if a goose said boo to her.
“But this whole experience has made her a very driven woman and she deserves all the credit she gets.
“Apart from anything, it would be lovely if she won the prize holiday. She works so hard and it would be great to see her getting a wee break.”
Eileen, of Prestwick, is now famed for a range of funding drives and is set to absail down the Falkirk Wheel next month.
Daughter Chloe-Ann, who nominated her mum, revealed: “I think what she does is amazing and it’s really nice that she’s called a hero for all the money she’s raised.”
But Eileen, 40, insisted: “I’m no hero. I just try and help other people and am fortunate enough that I can do that.
“It’s nice to get the recognition, but for me the fundraising is just a part of my life.
“Thankfully, a lot of good has been able to come from Ross’ condition and I’ll continue to fundraise.
“And maybe one day I can reach the £1 million mark.”
