Happy feet and times for Ayr dancers

WHAT a start to the New Year.

It’s no wonder they’ve got such huge smiles on their faces.

These 18 young dancers, aged 10 to 13, of Dansarena Studios, Ayr, have just learned that their energetic Happy Feet dance routine has got them through to the next round of auditions of Britain’s Got Talent.

Their next step will be to attend an audition – in front of talent guru Simon Cowell – at the SECC, Glasgow, on Wednesday, January 21.

The group’s tap and modern theatre dance teacher, Heather Rennie of Ayr, said: “The girls are so excited to be dancing in front of Simon Cowell and his fellow judges and are looking forward to meeting Ant and Dec.

“We will be rehearsing non-stop after the festivities have passed, but for the moment I have 18 very happy penguins and twice as many excited parents.

“Our fingers and flippers are crossed for January.”

It was last October the Happy Feet dancers went to the Armadillo, Glasgow, for their first audition in front of the show’s producers.

Thousands turned up for these auditions, which took four days to complete.

However, the signs were good as loads of photographs were taken of the group and, unlike many of the acts who auditioned, the youngsters were allowed to finish their routine which was also filmed.

Their Happy Feet routine also got them through to the national finals for Festival for Stars in Scarborough last September.

The young dancers are from all over Ayrshire, coming from Ayr, Troon, Prestwick, Dalrymple, Girvan, Drongan, Kilmarnock and Dreghorn.
