MUMS are being urged to breastfeed – because it’s better for their babies.
The call comes during World Breastfeeding Week, with NHS Ayrshire and Arran leading the way.
Research has shown babies who breastfeed are less likely to develop childhood leukemia or infant death syndrome.
Mums can also lower their risk of ovarian cancer, breast cancer and osteoperosis.
And one Ayrshire mum is in no doubt that breastfeeding is the way ahead.
Mum-of-two, Karen Paterson, revealed: “Breastfeeding is an amazing experience, it’s absolutely lovely.
“My two wee boys are extremely healthy and have hardly ever had a cold. I also found that, while breastfeeding, the weight just fell off me.
“I would definitely recommend all mums to breastfeed if they can.
“I have also trained to be a breastfeeding peer supporter through the Breastfeeding Network. We have four Breastfeeding Centres in Ayr, Kilmarnock, Irvine and Cumnock and a new set for Kilbirnie.”
