THE killer C Diff bug has claimed 24 lives in Ayrshire hospitals in just 12 months according to shocking new figures.
The number of cases in Ayrshire has soared by more than 100 to an all-time high of 658 in the same period.
The figures, covering the period from April last year to March this year, were revealed by health secretary Nicola Sturgeon in answer to a parliamentary question.
Ayrshire and Arran – one of Scotland’s smallest health authorities – is one of three pilot areas for tough new MRSA screening measures announced by the health secretary in March.
