Ayr Flower Show set for bumper year

AYR Flower Show looks set for another bumper year.

A record number of entrants will compete for top titles in a vast array of competitions at the event this weekend.

Organisers have recorded a whopping 30 per cent rise in entries in the floral art classes and a rise in the number of adult photographic and art competitions.

More than 25,000 people are expected to visit the show in the three days between Friday and Sunday, August 8 and 10.

Highlights this year include three stunning show gardens being created by local designers, over 300 trade stands, including scores of Chelsea medal winners, and a full programme of demonstrations, music and family entertainment from climbing wall to beekeeping and model railway displays.

Dobbies, City of Glasgow and West Dunbarton Councils are staging major exhibits which will be highlights of the Floral Marquee at the show.

Show chairman John Walker explained: “Once again the volunteers of the Horticultural Society have put together a quality show for the people of Ayrshire.

“We're extremely grateful to local and national sponsors for their support of the show, and look forward to staging an event which will attract thousands of people to Ayr.”
