Carrick's little mermaid

Mermaid Kelsie

SOMETHING is stirring on a rocky shore at Maidens.

And there have been sightings of a strange exotic sea creature.

Some feared a kelpie was haunting the shoreline.

But a Post probe reveals it’s a friendly mermaid called Kelsie.

The 10-year-old has been chosen as Maidens Mermaid 2008.

And she will be brought ashore by Girvan lifeboat for Maidens Harbour Gala.

Kelsie Shannon, from nearby Kirkoswald, is a pupil of Maidens Primary.

She is the oldest of three children of electrical engineer Bert and home carer Shirley Shannon.

Superfit Kelsie is into dancing and cheerleading. And her fish tail doesn’t stop her enjoying kick-boxing.

Kelsie will have relations coming from far and wide when she is the star of Maidens Harbour Gala on August 16.

l Folk who enjoy fun in the salt air should note that it’s Dunure Harbour Gala this Saturday, August 2.

It’s a western theme for the gala, from 1 to 5pm, and Taylor Gibson will be crowned Dunure Gala Queen.
