SEAFIELD Hospital produced some of the country’s best nurses – as well as some top-notch business people.
Ayr woman Jayne Baird Edgar started her career as a nurse at Seafield between 1975 and 1979. After getting the best possible start in paediatric nursing, Jayne headed for the bright lights of London to further her career.
After a spell at Westminster King’s Hospital, Jayne was headhunted by Portland Street hospital.
She held several senior posts there, including assistant director of nursing, before studying a marketing degree.
In 1991, Jayne went to work for Healthcall Optical Services, a homecare company providing quality care for housebound people throughout the UK.
After leading a team of colleagues to buy the then public limited company, Jayne, now 50, is the managing director of the company which is based in London. But Jayne remains an Ayr lassie through and through and returns regularly to visit friends and family.
Jayne was absolutely devastated when she heard that Seafield, the place she started her glittering career, had been gutted by the fire.
SEAFIELD memories have come flooding back to hundreds of people since the old building was destroyed by fire earlier this month.
Ann Webster was a sister at the children’s hospital and popped into the Ayrshire Post with an album packed full of old photographs depicting a happy place which touched so many lives.
Pictures above are Anne Webster (Simpson), Mhairi Sutherland, Margaret Sprott, Sister Rayner, Jean Dunn and Molly Wilson.
