THE young and old came together recently as the residents of Morrison Gardens sheltered housing unit and students from Ayr College took part in international make a wish day.
The event was part of an ongoing relationship between the two parties who form the HUG (Helping Unite Generations) group.
Staff and students from Ayr College were on hand to provide refreshments and home baking which they prepared themselves for the mad hatter tea party.
They also hosted a ‘wang a welly’ competition and a ‘designer welly contest’ which proved popular with Morrison Gardens residents.
A charity wishing well was set up at the complex where residents and guests could throw a coin in and make a wish.
All of the proceeds from the day will go towards the Make A Wish Foundation.
South Ayrshire Council’s depute leader, Councillor Margaret Toner was one of the invited guests at the ‘International Make a Wise Day’ celebrations.
She said: “There was a terrific atmosphere at the event, everyone had worked as a team to make it happen, and it was very well organised.
“The residents at Morrison Gardens have a wealth of life experience and valuable skills that they can pass on to the students at Ayr College.
“Likewise the students can bring so much to the residents, keeping them up to date with the latest trends and letting them know what is important to them.
“I am sure that the ties that have been established with Ayr College will go from strength to strength on future projects in years to come.”
More events for the HUG group are planned for the coming months.
