Thought for the week..

Two years ago, I wrote in Thought for the Week that this was the mince time of year and several people commented on it.

Maybe one day there will be a dictionary containing the expression “the mince time of year” and it will say that it was first heard in Ayr.

Having had our fill of turkey and Christmas pudding, what could be nicer than a plate of mince cooked with onions and carrots and served with mashed potatoes and peas.

When my father was given something to eat he’d never tasted before, he used to say, “It’s all right, but I wouldn’t like to live on it.” He never said that about mince.

Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us today our daily bread.” There was no mention of lemon drizzle cake or boiled fruit muffins.

Using the Lord’s Prayer as a model, we can ask God to supply our basic needs, but we can’t make demands for treats. Remember, half the world is starving.
