The £81 million campus has won the Green Gown award for its “modernisation – effectiveness and efficiency in the estate”.
The awards recognise sustainability initiatives at universities and colleges across the UK.
And the 18,000m2 Ayr Campus, which was developed by UWS in partnership with SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College), has been winning rave environmentl reviews since it opened last year.
Professor Paul Martin, UWS interim depute principal, said: “We are delighted to be inaugural winners of this prestigious award.
“It is a tremendous achievement for the university and SRUC to have Ayr campus receive this national recognition.
Bob Webb, CEO and principal, SRUC, added: “We are very proud of this joint venture with University of the West of Scotland.
“Working together we were able to produce a sustainable building design which has reduced running costs and environmental impact while ensuring the space is one that staff and students enjoy working in.”
