Cumnock graveyard vandals strike again

HEARTLESS yobs have gone on the rampage in a graveyard twice in as many weeks and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

A further 12 families have been left devastated after their relatives’ headstones were torn down in the Cumnock cemetery.

It comes a week after nine stones were targeted in the same graveyard.

And police have been left reeling by the latest sick attack in Glaisnock Street.

They say they are determined to track down the mindless thugs responsible for the vandalism.

Inspector Derek Ireland, from Cumnock police office, said: “It is beyond belief that further damage has been done in this cemetery. That’s a total of 21 headstones which have been pulled over.

“Each will cost around £250 to repair – that’s more that £5000 worth of damage.

“My thoughts and sympathies are with the families affected by this incident. It is disgusting and callous and we’ll be doing all we can to catch those responsible and bring them to justice.

“Somebody knows who is responsible for this and I would urge them to come forward.”

Anyone who has information about the vandalisms should contact PC Steven Bodys at Cumnock police office on 01290 306600, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
