Tesco transformed for Ayrshire Hospice fitness challenge

Supermarket fitness challenge

A SUPERMARKET was transformed into a part-time gym as charity workers coined in the cash.

The Ayrshire Hospice are building towards their trek along the Great Wall of China and put in some hard miles of training.

But instead of hitting the treadmills, they brought the machines to Tesco and challenged the public to join them.

Ayr United sent a squad of volunteers to lead the fundraising and were joined by a number of local groups.

United chairman Lachlan Cameron, five star lottery chief Andrew Downie and Somerset Park doorman Bobby Jones were among those raising cash for the cause.

A total of £506.50 was collected on the day with more still to come.

Event organiser Justine Cullen revealed: “It was a great day and quite an eye-opener as to how unfit a lot of us were.

“The stepper machines were really hard going and people were saying they had to give up after five minutes – the men were sweating buckets.

“But the staff at Tesco kept us going with sweets and water and it was a good warm-up for our walk along the Great Wall.”
